MY STORY:
“Leadership is how you interact with everyone including yourself”, Bruce Schnider. Therefore, it is not a matter of whether you are a leader, it is, how well do you lead.
I have discovered that the energy of the leader colours the energy of the organisation!
What I have experienced is that so many people despise their corporate lives. Though aspects may bring joy and fulfilment – you here the common saying, “I love my job, but can’t stand the people”. And for some, it is the reverse. Like many, I was in love with my career, the companies I worked, and even my colleagues for many years, but then there was a shift – my energy shifted. The feeling of love was replaced with frustration, annoyance, and struggle. The conflict energy around me was getting in – it was shifting mine. And as it is said, energy attracts like energy.
How I experienced the conflict I was perceiving – was just feeling sapped, drained, annoyed. To that end, was the common question I usually ask myself, “Is it all worth it?” A culture of conflict can often look like an individual or company that gets things done, but typically by force. There is little freedom to fail – which is really – little freedom to grow. While conflict can have advantages, it is essentially destructive in the long run. Success comes at a cost, and often time the cost is the most important resource – people.
The most powerful awareness was learning how I contributed to that draining energy (either by my actions or inactions) – only then was I able to make a powerful change that served me and essentially serve others. So YES, I had to take responsibility.
Now, with deep sense of awareness and competency in understanding what influences energy, and knowing how to help others create a shift, I am resolute on helping leaders gain this awareness and create the shift that can transform their teams and their entire organisation.
My corporate experiences, especially my last, ultimately led me to finally deciding that the time was now! I started my journey the month after my resignation – EMPOWERED. I am now a Certified Professional Coach (CPC) intent on helping leaders raise their consciousness, recognise their influence, and create the shift in culture they desire, inspiring a culture of passion and performance.
I am also an Energy Leadership Index Master Practitioner (ELI-MP), both certifications having been obtained from the Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching (iPEC)- one of the leading coach-training institution globally.
Before becoming a coach, I received my undergraduate degree from The University of Technology Jamaica in Human Resource Management & Marketing and built a corporate sales and marketing career at multi-national and regional companies across FMCG and Finance Industries. I also hold a Master of Science in Counselling Psychology and have simultaneously accumulated almost 10 years of experience working with individuals, groups, and families to transform their lives.
